Meeting with Legislators Friday, 12/11/2009

Dear fellow TAUWP members at UWM,
In recent weeks, we have met with the President and the Vice President of the UW System Board of Regents to emphasize our need for administrative neutrality as we organize for collective bargaining. We've been prompted into this action because the UW System Administration as well as a number of campus administrations have increasingly been taking actions that are not neutral and, instead, are antagonistic towards unionization.
Consequently, to build on our previous efforts, this Friday morning, we will be meeting with State Representatives Krusick, Cullen, and Richards, and State Senator Plale:
Friday, December 11th, at
8:30 am, in
Curtin Hall, Room 666
As we have done in recent meetings with the Regents, we will advance the position that the administration needs to maintain "neutrality" about organizing through their words _and_ through their deeds.
Please note that it is extraordinary for TAUWP to gain an audience of four legislators on campus. The legislators are meeting with us, though, because of concerns they have already heard regarding administrative encroachment on our right to organize.
In order for the legislators to place higher priority on protecting our right to freely and fairly organize on campus, please place priority in your schedule to join us this Friday morning. (Sorry! I know this is a busy time for all of us! We were not able to arrange this meeting with all of these legislators until now.)
Thank you!
